Douglas V. Hoehn is a self-taught artist working in the native woods found around his property and in the surrounding Laurel Highlands south of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. With his natural sense of artistry, a familiarity with native wildlife, and over 35 years of service as a park ranger and manager, Mr. Hoehn creates playful and whimsical wildlife sculptures.
Mr. Hoehn initally uses a chain saw to transform a fallen log to the basic shape of the intended animal or bird. This is followed by use of many diverse woodworking tools, depending on the desired detail.
Building on his customers' requests, Mr. Hoehn's designs are inspired by years of work in Pennsylvania's woods and a life-long appreciation for its wildlife and their habits.
